Colorado: A high court in the US state of Colorado has banned Donald Trump from participating in the elections.

According to the BBC news agency, the Colorado Supreme Court has imposed this ban based on Trump‘s role in the attacks on the US Congress on January 6, 2021.

Donald Trump has become the first presidential candidate in US history to be disqualified from the White House after the Supreme Court ruled by a four-to-three majority.

After this decision of the Supreme Court, Donald Trump will not be able to participate in the presidential elections in the state of Colorado, while the possibility of raising this matter in the Supreme Court of the United States is being shown.

According to the US Constitution, a person guilty of ‘rebellion or treason‘ cannot hold the office of president.

In its ruling, the court said that the US Constitution barred a Republican candidate from running for office if he played a role in inciting violence against the US government.

In the judgment, the majority of the judges wrote that we did not come to this conclusion easily. We are aware of the heavy questions we now face. At the same time, we are also aware of our duty to apply the law without any suspicion or favor. And make decisions that are right in the light of law without being influenced by public reaction.
Donald Trump‘s team has decided to file an appeal against the court decision, terming it as “improper” and “undemocratic“.

Although the court ruling will apply to the March 5 Republican primary contests in Colorado, when Republican voters choose their preferred candidate for president, it will also affect the November 5 general election.

According to analysts, the majority of votes in the state of Colorado fall to the Democratic Party, so whatever the future of Donald Trump is, Joe Biden’s votes will not be affected.

Trump’s lawyer maintains that the riot on Capitol Hill was not serious enough to amount to sedition.

The lawyer cited Donald Trump‘s statements to his supporters on the day of the attack on Capitol Hill that the right to free speech protects them.
