Meta has announced that calls and chats in Messenger will be protected by end-to-end encryption by default.

It should be noted that WhatsApp is also Meta’s app in which the feature of end-to-end encryption by default has been available for a long time.

A blog post by Meta said that thanks to the encryption technology, no one will be able to access the messages or calls of Messenger users.

The company itself will not have access to Messenger chats and calls.

Note that since 2016 Messenger users have had the option of end-to-end encryption available, but they have to turn it on themselves on every chat, which is why very few people use this feature.

However, the availability of this feature by default will improve the security of the chat platform.

“After years of work, we’ve made end-to-end encryption the default in Messenger,” Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said in a post on Facebook.

In 2019, Mark Zuckerberg said he would provide end-to-end encryption security to private chats across all of his company’s apps.

At the time, he said, ‘As far as I’m concerned, the future of the Internet will be a privacy-based communication platform that will be more important than today’s open platforms.’

In 2022, Messenger started testing the feature of end-to-end encryption by default.

Now after more than a year, this feature has finally been rolled out to all users.

According to the company, it took several years to introduce this feature because we wanted to make it a proper part of the app.

The company said that end-to-end encryption will not affect Messenger’s features and users will be able to use themes or customize reactions.

But it may take a few weeks to encrypt all users’ Messenger chats.
