Apple’s New Security Feature: Stolen Device Protection

A new security feature is being introduced by Apple. That will help keep thieves away from your iPhone data.

Smartphones contain many sensitive user details. Like account emails of various services, credit card details, etc.

iPhone users access their sensitive details through a passcode. This code of 4 or 6 digits is used for various tasks. Like viewing credit card details, changing Apple ID passwords accessing all passwords stored in the device, etc.

This is the reason why Apple has added a new feature Stolen Device Protection in iOS 17.3 beta to strengthen the security of iPhones.

Through this feature, users will be able to make their devices more secure. Then even if thieves don’t know the passcode, the data will be protected.

With this feature, users will be able to access their sensitive details or change their Apple ID using biometric methods like Face ID (face scan) or Touch ID (fingerprint).

According to the company, the feature will ask for biometric data when a user changes their Apple ID password, switches to face or fingerprint scanning, or turns off Find My iPhone.

After providing the biometric data, the data will be asked again after waiting for an hour, after which the changes will be allowed.

According to a spokesperson of Apple, the theft of devices or their theft has increased a lot in the current era. That’s why we’re developing new features to protect our users and their data.

The spokesperson said that Stolen Device Protection will provide more protection to users and no thief will be able to steal data through passcode.

The spokesperson added that this feature will ask for biometric data when the user tries to make changes to the device at a location other than his home or office, which will not be recorded in the device.

iPhone automatically stores familiar places like home or office.

Although this feature is available to beta users, the company said. But all users will be able to use it after the new iOS update.

However, users have to turn on this feature themselves.

For this, you have to turn on the option of Stolen Device Protection by going to the Face ID and Passcode in the phone settings.
