Oman won the toss and elected to bowl first, giving Australia a competitive target of 165 runs. Stoins scored an unbeaten 66 off 35 balls which included two fours and six sixes.

The Australian innings were well supported by their middle order, which allowed them to post a challenging total.

In reply, Oman struggled to build momentum, with constant wickets hampering their chances of making significant contributions.

Australia’s bowling attack proved too strong for Oman, with Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, and Nathan Ellis picking up one wicket apiece, Marcus Stoinis picking up another three wickets and earning the man of the match award for showing his all-round ability well. Oman ended their innings on 125 runs for 9 wickets. Ian Khan top-scored with 36 runs off 30 balls.

“It was a good start, we got the win, and the guys had some time in the middle, and everyone got to bowl. I was just trying to manage the situation and keep it simple,” Stoins commented on the win. “Couple kept low, and some spinners didn’t seem available, and I was trying to get some bounce with the cross-seam delivery.”

The victory sets a positive tone for the Australian team as they progress further into the tournament, and confirms their status as strong contenders to defend their title.
