Nawaz Sharif Acquitted In The Al-Azizia Reference
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court acquitted PML-N leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.
A hearing on Nawaz Sharif’s appeal against the sentence in the Al-Azizia reference was held in the Islamabad High Court today.
A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb held the hearing and reserved the verdict.

The Islamabad High Court rejected the plea to send the Al-Azizia reference back to the accountability court.
Later, the Islamabad High Court in a brief judgment allowed Nawaz Sharif’s appeal against his conviction in the Al-Azizia reference and acquitted him in the case.

It should be remembered that on July 6, 2018, the accountability court of Islamabad sentenced Nawaz Sharif to 11 years in prison in the Avenfield reference.
Also, on December 24, 2018, the Accountability Court of Islamabad sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to 7 years in prison and a fine in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.

On October 26 this year, the Islamabad High Court reinstated the appeals against the sentence in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references at the request of (N) League leader Nawaz Sharif.
In recent days, the Islamabad High Court has acquitted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference by declaring his sentence of 11 years in prison null and void.
